During my internship at Scenario X, I embarked on a remarkable journey, transitioning from an economics graduate to a communications intern. This experience was nothing short of exhilarating as it unleashed my creativity in a whole new way. Under the mentorship of two exceptional individuals, the COO, Jonathan Amoussou, and the head of marketing, Njabulo Mendlula, I encountered challenges that pushed me out of my comfort zone. However, I was fortunate to have mentors who were incredibly supportive and patient, guiding me through the intricacies of my tasks.
Scenario X, being a startup, was determined to build its brand, and during my internship, I was actively engaged in contributing my insights to this ambitious project. Working in a virtual environment was a novel experience for me, and there were moments of frustration when the internet connection faltered, hindering my progress. Additionally, in this new field, I occasionally questioned whether I was meeting the inspirational part: at the end of each task, my mentors consistently provided constructive feedback and guidance, leaving me with a profound sense of growth and accomplishment. This experience taught me the true values of working within a company – the importance of effective communication, the power of being heard, and the significance of feeling valued.
My internship at Scenario X was a transformative journey that illustrated the power of perseverance and adaptability, reminding me that one can indeed turn the unexpected into a canvas.
My Team, Mentors and Coaches
Throughout my internship, I had the privilege of working side by side with a fantastic group of five other interns, and the experience was nothing short of encouraging. On days when my spirits were low, this incredible team was there to lift me up. We shared laughter, inside jokes, and countless lunches together. Our camaraderie extended beyond the office tasks as we worked individually yet together, supporting one another along the way. What truly stood out was the extraordinary team spirit that permeated our work. We embarked on this journey as strangers, but we left as a tightly-knit family. I had the privilege to be coached by Karen of B360, who would check up on me and ensured everything moved smoothly. She was part of my mentors that made this journey worthwhile, on top of my company mentors.
Cultural Exchange
One of the most delightful surprises during my internship was the opportunity to delve into the enchanting world of Switzerland. Four distinct cultural exchange sessions transported me into the heart of Swiss culture, and while I was already absorbing information about Switzerland through my work, these sessions truly brought the social dimension to life. Switzerland, a country composed of four distinct linguistic and cultural regions, fascinated me. The diversity of its people and traditions was a captivating journey to explore. What amused me the most was discovering that Taylor, one of my Swiss colleagues, is a talented singer, a revelation that tickled my own aspirations as a bit of a crooner.
Now, as I dream about my future adventures in Switzerland, two things dominate my excitement. Firstly, I can't wait to hop on those world-famous Swiss trains, wondering if they come with built-in fondue stations! And of course, there's the cheese – a mouthwatering world of dairy delights that promises to be the cheesiest adventure of my life. Speaking of scale, it was quite a surprise to learn that the entire Switzerland is about the size of Copperbelt Province right here in Zambia. I guess the Swiss figured out that big things come in small packages, or maybe they just needed more room for their iconic chocolates and watch-making workshops! In any case, the prospect of exploring Switzerland has me cheesily excited and ready to yodel my way through this amazing country.
Highlights and lowlights
This internship has truly been the highlight of my life. The warm and welcoming atmosphere at Scenario X was a constant source of motivation. The entire team exuded kindness and always had smiles on their faces. Collaborating with my fellow interns was not just work; it was fun, and I eagerly anticipated each day. Our Friday team building lunches were a weekly joy. Another exceptional highlight was the discovery of my untapped creative side. I never knew it existed until this internship allowed me to explore it. The experience of working alongside someone as talented as Njabulo was nothing short of inspiring. In fact, the only downside to this incredible journey was the occasional internet hiccups, which disrupted my workflow and ate into my precious time. In summary, this internship has been a whirlwind of positivity and personal growth.
My future plans
I'm committed to pursuing a master's degree in Economics to deepen my knowledge in this field. Simultaneously, this internship has ignited a curiosity within me to delve into the dynamic realms of communications and marketing. I'm eager to explore my creative potential in these areas and see where this new journey will lead.

I am deeply honored to have been a part of this groundbreaking virtual internship pilot. The skills and values I've acquired will have a lasting impact on my life. I entered as a different individual, and I leave as a transformed person. My heartfelt gratitude goes to B360 for this invaluable opportunity, and I extend my special thanks to my mentors from B360, Scenario X, UNILUS, and my incredible team.
