Virtual Internship at Global People Transitions
Bachelor Student in Marketing
University of Lusaka
August 21 - October 31, 2023
At work
As I awaited my graduation in October 2023, I was privileged enough to be among 6 selected individuals for the B360 education partnerships virtual internship program that ran from August 2023 to October 2023. I was working with a company called Global People Transitions, a global mobility training and coaching company and I was working under the direct supervision of Angie Weinberger, the founder and managing director of the company. For the first few weeks of my internship, I was working under the supervision of Kamila Banak, a fellow intern who had only 2 weeks left with us. She helped me get settled in quite fine and always availed herself for any queries and concerns.
Cultural Exchange
The cultural exchange program was a personal favorite of mine as I got to see Switzerland and its captivating landscapes, people, and culture through the eyes a delightful group of experts who took time to interact and engage with us to as well learn a little of my Zambian heritage. Meeting Barbara Graf Horka was very intriguing to me as I saw a little of myself in her and really loved the session about transportation modes and her character was so warm. The musical session was great as I got introduced to some amazing Swiss tunes. I also got to understand a few different cultural differences with regards to things like time and different working cultures. The program allowed for my fellow interns and me to know a little about our various working companies home of origin.
Highlights and lowlights
I spent the first week of my project trying to understand it and what is expected of me to carry out. I found out that it is not easy transitioning from being a full-time student to becoming a career driven professional. I started off with getting familiar with the organization and the way the day-to-day operations work. With time my project became clearer, and I understood the way to move forward with my work.
It was mostly a positive learning experience as I gained a lot of analytical skills such as SEO as well as Inclusion with regards to content creation and of course for existing content. It was an astounding experience to work with a team so small but so effective and efficient with such a homely touch. Overall, my work experience was informative and valuable to my professional career, and I am glad to have worked for and with Global People Transitions as I also gained insights into a new industry, the Global Mobility industry. Since I got to interact with a few experts within the industry, I was able to broaden my network.
My future plans
My future plans include me taking up mentorship training from my Swiss company mentor and founder Angie Weinbrger. I plan on enhancing my digital marketing skills and look forward to finishing the rest of my B360 internship with ZICTA. I plan on applying for my masters in a year's time but for now I look forward to laying my professional foundation and starting a digital marketing company of my own
