Cooperation with university staff

My first assignment was quite a challenge as I had to cover a lot of very interesting fields of marketing: Marketing Brand Management, Consumer Behaviour, Communication Strategy and Intercultural and Negotation Management. These courses were to be taught to full time and part time students. I didn’t know at all what to expect and decided to throw in as much of my practical experience and knowledge as possible and hence prepared intensively for the classes. Those students that visited more than one of my courses got a quite extensive and good idea of today’s 360° marketing. I think the local lecturers benefited the most from my public lecture about digital marketing.

Cooperation with students

In all courses, I followed the structure to include some of today’s basic theories that we use in practical marketing, present a case study and then have the students work in groups using the taught strategies to promote a local Namibian brand. I tried to give them idea what marketing looks like in an international context from Europe to the US and Asia, and to teach them life lessons as I would do with my own marketing team. Key messages were to keep it simple, to use storytelling and common sense! I really couldn’t complain – they were motivated and surprised me with some really great ideas. It was a fantastic chance for me to get to know better the Namibian market, its brands and the students’ preferences and thoughts. My favourite feedback from the students was: I can really use this!

Impact and win-win

I hope I was able to give them an idea of opportunities in today’s marketing in Namibia. I myself was fuelled with the energy of critical thinking of all those 20 something students and wonderfully reminded of why I wanted to work in Marketing.
